Speed Focus Mode (auto-alert, auto-reveal, auto-fail)

0.05MB. Updated 2019-06-02. Supports both Anki 2.0.x and 2.1.x.

Trains your attention and speed by performing automated actions if you take too long to go through your reviews. Three different levels of 'encouragements' are provided: All of these can be configured individually for each deck options group. SCREENSHOTS CHANGELOG Version 0.3.0 – 2019-06-02 Fixed Changed You can view all past releases here. USAGE
  1. Open deck options
  2. Navigate to the 'General' tab
  3. Find the three new options as shown in the screenshot above and configure them to your liking
The alert and answer reveal timeout refer to seconds spent on the question side, while the auto-'again' timer starts counting after revealing the question. Setting any of the timers to 0 will disable them. CONFIGURATION You can customize the alert sound by replacing alert.mp3 in the add-on folder with a sound file of your choice. Just make sure that it's named the same and sporting the same file format. HELP AND SUPPORT Please do not use reviews for bug reports or support requests. Not sure if it is this add-on's problem. It seems auto-reveal answer will interrupt audio play. Like if I set auto-reveal answer after 3 seconds, the audio play will stop after 3 seconds even though it is not finished playing. But the length of audio play or number of audios varies every card and this add-on only can set fixed time elapse. I don't have this problem on Anki 2.0 with Automatically show answer after X seconds. Hope this add-on don't interrupt audio play. Let Anki play all audios.

I like it but there should be a Pause button, there are times were I need to pause when I'm taking notes or using the add-on Built-in Dictionary and have to read something but cannot.
Also when I hit "E" to edit a card the sound is still playing even though im in the middle of editing a card.

In principle a good addon, however I sometimes have the issue, that it will play the sound and reveal the note, even though I should have another 20 secs before the note should be revealed...

I think it's safe to say this can double anyone's review time and when dealing with something so time consuming like big collections and lifelong learning SRS, this is perfect.

I was feeling a little down with anki and feeling bad wasting too much time of time there, so I decided to spice things up with add-ons. This is what I was looking for, and even more, for productivity. I'm also using VIM keys (hjkl) for one-handed review.

When we have loads and loads of cards and need to study more effectively in order literally change our lives, any help is good.

Great. But I only use it for reviewing, not for learning.
So I changed
autoAgainTimeout = setTimeout(function () { %s("ease1"); }, ms);
autoAgainTimeout = setTimeout(function () { %s("ease2"); }, ms);
This way it automatically answers good.

excellent at making anki more exciting

One solution for the problem with the long cards would be to create different decks according to how much time it takes to answer the cards. For example one could have three decks, "5 seconds", "10 seconds", 15 seconds" with different settings each.
With this addon the user has to make less decisions, which as a result makes the usage of anki less strenuous. It makes it easy. One of the best addons! If you set the timer to 3 seconds show card,5 seconds rate again you can easily do 500 cards in half an hour!

Brilliant add-on. It has SIGNIFICANTLY accelerated my reviews and reduced boredom.
on 1546088008
This addon revolutionized my Anki life. Only minor problem I have is that some cards require more time than others. I answer most cards within 10s, but some cards require more time, even if I know them perfectly. So it would be ideal if there was a way to up the timer on a card-by-card basis. A messy workaround could be to have multiple alerts, one for short cards and one for longer cards. In the case of long cards you'd just pretend you didn't see the first alert.
on 1544180955
Hey, Aristotelis! Is it possible to disable auto-fail? Thanks! :)
on 1544060507
I really love this addon. But I can't use it for my decks. Here is why ...

I have a sugggestion: It would be absolutely AWESOME to add an option like "add x seconds per word" (add answer time per word on the question card). My deck consists of short words, but also of longer phrases and complete sentences. And I guess since "sentence mining" is a fix term in the language learner community, many other learners also have such a mixed deck. With such an option, many people could use this Anki addon without having to deactivate it each time a longer phrase comes along (and therefore not really being able to use it at all). Anyways, keep uop the good work!
on 1543637182
It's really helpful. I was eager for this addon when I use 2.0 because I usually forget to press the answer key and waste time for thinking, not remembering. Upgrading to 2.1 is a good choice.

Great for those who constantly get distracted while reviewing
on 1535493264
My Japanese reviews were seriously starting to feel like torture, so I tried this out. I set the alert at 3 seconds and automatic reveal at 5 seconds. This seriously boosted my productivity in several ways:

- Gaming element - Trying to beat the clock is fun and makes me want to review more
- Save time by objectively quantifying hard vs good - Don't have to waste time deciding between choices as long as I know the answer:
- Easy: Instantly
- Good: Before the alert
- Hard: After the alert
- Again: After the automatic reveal

This add-on seriously makes reviews so much quicker and accurate. I'm not willowing about trying to figure out a card, spending way too much time, and then inaccurately rating how well I did, which would mess up my intervals. This makes Anki actually fun!

Great thanks to Glutanimate for making an incredible add-on!

It is terrific, now i can study really quickly, it was wonderful,
before this add, i used to make only 200 new cards/day now i can do more than 300.

Trying to "beat" the card before the alarm goes off is a fun, game-like element. This has let me increase the speed of my reviewing, as well as my level of focus. Great add-on.
on 1520812800
Good! But can you please add options auto-easy, auto-good, auto-hard? It will be greater with these.
For example:
We set: before 3s auto-easy, after 3s auto-good, after 10s auto-hard, after 20s auto-again& auto-reveal.
When reviewing a card, question is showed, we press "Space bar" the 1st time to show answer and as normally, if we continue to press the "space bar" the 2nd time, the card will be automatically rated as "good".
But with this add-on, when we press the "space bar" the 2nd time, the card will be auto-rated as in the option we set at the begining. Besides, we can also click to choose the "again", "hard", "good", "easy" buttons if we think the result is not exact.
on 1519430400
Please also add this option:
Automatically rate as "good" and showing the next card. That's what really makes it all automatic.
Actually giving user the option to choose if the automatic rate would be "good" or "again" after a certain time.

Good !

Yet another great release. The auto-alert option helps me focus without revealing the answer or failing the card, which are still there if someone needs them. Thanks so much.

on 1513900800
Nice! I comissioned this add-on, so would I spend no longer than 5 seconds on each of my cards.

Having a time-limit for each card helps me focus, helps me stay on the track when I'm studying.

And if I study 1 card every 5 seconds, I can do a total of 720 cards per hour. This is my dream add-on, which is why I comissioned it.

My cards are mostly long sentences, which is why my time-limit is 5 seconds per card. If you are doing individual words, you can set your time limit to something like 2 seconds.

Getting a penalty for being slow... (the answer showing automatically or the card hitting the Again button) ... is really great to increase your focus.
