Chess – model for chess problems

0.03MB. 0 audio & 0 images. Updated 2014-07-04.

Model deck for chess problems. The deck shows one chess position as a diagram on the front and one position on the back. This works on Anki desktop and Anki web (tested with Firefox and Chrome) and AnkiDroid and may work with AnkiMobile (iOS). It does not work with Android 2.1 devices, as it relies on custom fonts that do not work there. This deck is mostly empty, add your own cards. The model has four fields: The positions should be in a modified Forsyth–Edwards Notation. Use only the piece placement, don’t add castling &c information. For details of the notation see the HTMLTTChess reference. N.B. the <c:chess> and <c:chess> tags are part of the model do not add them. Important expansions on FEN: The deck uses the HTMLTTChess package. Do not change the script in the front or back template or the base part of the style sheet. An important part of the package is the Chess Merida Unicode font, which is embedded in the deck. Copyright: All licenced GNU General Public License V. 3.0.

Great works well! Sometimes if the side to play and win is black - it's preferable to see it from black's point of view - i.e. with black at the bottom of the board. The simplest way to do this is to reverse the FEN string. For example:
"7k/8/4(...)1/8/5PK1/8/8/8" - black to play and draw here it is shown from the white perspective. Reverse the text like this:
"8/8/8/1KP5/8/1)...(4/8/k7" - will show with black on the bottom of the board.
Copy and paste the original FEN string here: http://www.textreverse.com/

**If you use the above example to test - please remember to remove the quotes from the FEN string.

Good luck!

Great solution

I have been using this tool since 2015 and it has been a good helper, memory is so important in everything. Thanks.

Nice graphics but ...

Nice graphics and quite flexible. White at the bottom is annoying though. The only
way to take care of this is to change lower-/uppercase, so for the starting position RNBQKBNR/PPPPPPPP/8/8/8/8/pppppppp/rnbqkbnr instead
of rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR. Any other ideas?

A simple way to create flash cards of chess positions

This is a great little design. It offers an excellent way to keep those troublesome positions in your mind without having to import graphics.

One thing that would make it better for me is the ability to show Black on the bottom.
