Now with more native speaker audio added Malayalam script is also widely used for writing Sanskrit texts in Kerala.Like many other Indic scripts, it is an abugida (alphasyllabary), a writing system that is partially alphabetic and partially syllable-based. The modern Malayalam alphabet has 15 vowel letters, 41 consonant letters, and a few other symbols. The Malayalam script is a Vatteluttu alphabet extended with symbols from the Grantha alphabet to represent Indo-Aryan loanwords. Malayalam /mæləˈjɑːləm/(മലയാളം, Malayāḷam ? [mɐləjaːɭəm]), is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India and was designated a Classical Language in India. Malayalam has official language status in the state of Kerala and in the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry. It belongs to the Dravidian family of languages and is spoken by some 38 million people.
