Expression 今さっき 配達に出かけたところだから
English He just stepped out with some deliveries for me.
Reading 今[こん]さっき 配達[はいたつ]に 出[で]かけたところだから
Screenshot
Explanation This sentence is all new stuff. But we're not shying away from those no more.今 means now.さっき means a moment ago.今さっき means just a moment ago. So it happened even closer to the present than just さっき.配達 is delivery.出 means coming out or to leave. It's often used with other verbs. We saw it with 出会う.かける is also used in a lot of different ways.出かける means to leave, to set out to do something.ところ as a noun means place. When used after a verb, it means the verb is about to happen, or just happenned.だから is used after a reason. The next is "he's not far".And the reason for that is this sentence: He just went out.

Expression 世界には どれくらい (ポケモン)が いるのかな?
English How many Pokémon are there in the world?
Reading 世界[せかい]には どれくらい (ポケモン)が いるのかな?
Screenshot
Explanation に is one of the most important particle. It's the target particle. It's used to indicate the target of the action, usually a location, time, or a person. Here, it's a location, 世界, the world. It's combined with は, which doesn't change the meaning of the sentence. It's just here for emphasis.どれ is part of the Kosoado family. It means which. くらい means approximatively.どれくらい is an expression that means "how much, "how long", "how far".We see いる on it's own this time.We saw テレビがある, meaning there's a TV.ある is used for inanimate things like TV.いる is used for living things like Pokemon. So, "In the world, how much, there is Pokemon".の is the Normalizer, and かな turns it into a question."How many Pokémon are there in the world?"

Expression うむ かれは (ライバル) と いうのか!
English Mm-hmm. I see! His name is Rival!
Reading うむ かれは (ライバル) と いうのか!
Screenshot
Explanation This is a bit difficult.ふむ is easy, it's an interjection that means "hmm"; "I see".Japanese use a lot of these interjection as a way to keep the conversation going.と can be used to make list, but more often it will be used a quotation particle.Litteraly "Anki" becomes アンキと in japanese. You can put it after names, but also entire phrases or your own thoughts.いう is to say, to call.という is a common expression meaning "called".So, "as for you, you're called Anki".の can also be used as nominalizer. It turns an entire clause into a single noun. It's very often pronounced ん instead of の, that's not just Oak this time. It's just easier to prounounce. We can finally see な without か this time.We have だ before, so Oak is actually saying "as for you, you're called Anki" as a statement. But he's not asking you, but he still wants confirmation. We use な for that.はい means Yes, and いいえ means No.Two words you'll use all the time in conversations but also in jrpg to confirm choices.
