FOR NON-WINDOWS USERS: You might have problems if your Anki is in the latest release (2.1.19 as of now). The add-on works fine if you are on an older version, I recommend 2.1.16 since it's the most up to date version that also works. You can download it from Anki's site (https://apps.ankiweb.net/downloads/archive/). Also run this command "sudo apt-get install python3-pyqt5.qtsvg" to update python. I'm on Pop_OS! but this issue might happen with other distros and maybe even mac.

My (now outdated) complete post:

Great add-on but it doesn't work on Manjaro and on Pop_OS!, running the latest version of everything. This shows up when I open Anki (I'm replacing my name with "USER"):

An add-on you installed failed to load. If problems persist, please go to the Tools>Add-ons menu, and disable or delete the add-on.

Edit: Sorry!!! I didn't know Linux was not supported, really doesn't make sense to downvote it then. Serves as a warning for anyone planning to do the same though, so I'll keep it here. The add-on is incredible but you might have to search for workarounds.
Comment from author before post was edited
Linux is not officially supported, so a down-vote doesn't really make sense here. On GitHub there were several users talking about getting it to work on Linux so you may want to reference there.

After installing this add-on on macOS (Mojave 10.14.6), Anki no longer starts, giving a long error description. Anki version is 2.1.19.

Reckon you could post the error?

The amount of features packed into this addon is kind of wild, but even if you only want to use it for its basic dictionary features (as I do) it still dramatically reduces the amount of time you spend making cards, while keep the quality high.

It is a great addon! It really streamlines the card creation and learning process.

21 positive reviews posted all on 1/6.... 0 reviews on most other days. Hmm it's almost like this shady AJATT ripoff is using shady tactics!
on 1578805672
Very useful add-on, especially when paired with the other MIA add-ons. Only thing I wish is that the night mode for the dictionary more closely resembles the actual "Night Mode" add-on as to have continuity between the flashcards and the dictionary.
on 1578664949
Fantastic. Easy to install and saves a lot of time. High quality like every MIA product.
on 1578517370
Night mode's contrast is too high (literally white on black), and I would like to request monolingual dictionaries for the other languages as well, since I study French.
on 1578514806
Has sped up my card creation a lot. Really helpful. Extra points for the frequency stars, makes it easier to evaluate whether a word should be learned yet. Easy to use too, once you get the hang of it.
on 1578510494
I enjoy and think it is really useful for learing spanish. Mainly the frequency dictionary star system really helps.
on 1578473781
Excellent add-on for language learning users espacially for Japanese. It needs a little commitment to understand how it works and to import your dictionnaries, but then the process of creating new cards becomes very smooth.
I use it everyday and I'm very satisfied of it.
The UI could somehow be enhanced but the features are great.

on 1578347606
This add-on is amazing for making Anki cards and just interacting with Japanese in the wild as easy as it is to look up any word you might find on the internet or in subtitles
on 1578346484
On par with most dictionary viewers and has a ton of nice Anki integration
on 1578345731
As someone who spent years making monolingual cards, this add-on makes the process of creating high-quality monolingual cards a lot more efficient than ever before. I have a hard time believing the people who say that it's not are being honest or have any sort of proficiency in language learning.
on 1578343873
Fantastic addon, amazing to see such good tools put out there for free!

This add-on really changes the game as far as sentence mining is concerned. This shaves down the time from minutes to seconds when creating new cards. Good on the folks at MIA for this one.
on 1578339836
I recently set this up and since i started it saves me a lot of time when i am making cards. One of the most useful add-ons i have used for anki in a long time!
on 1578339224
Really useful for various language learning workflows.
on 1578338802
Been using it for almost a week now. Saves so much time when making cards, especially when used with Morphman -- Morphman tells you which cards are ideal for you to learn, then you just mass generate all the definitions for those words.
on 1578338025
Been using this since the beta stages and its such a great add on . the guy posting negative reviews and making new accounts . get a life bro XD
on 1578336885
Once it's set up and you understand how to use it, it dramatically simplifies the process. This is a quality addon that has helped me immensely.
on 1578335563
Works as it's supposed to! Incredibly useful and makes creating flashcards more enjoyable :)
on 1578335140
Together with ShareX its really fast and comfortable to create cards from other media.
I also enjoy being able to add audio from forvo with two clicks.
on 1578334701
Definitely makes adding cards to Anki seemless. Very powerful!!
on 1578223278

terrible ui design
just takes up space with no real purpose

Great add-on, though I would love to have monolingual dictionaries for all these languages (German-German, French-French, Italian-Italian). Technically, this data could be mined from Wiktionary (free & open source) for most major languages, but it would involve downloading each language's individual Wiktionary database, opening in MySQL, and converting it to MIA's proprietary dictionary format. All of this is explained on Wiktionary's website (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Help:FAQ#Downloading_Wiktionary), but is unfortunately way over my head in terms of technical know-how. This add-on has the potential to save tons of time, and Japanese learners can benefit from it immediately. But the lack of monolingual dictionaries in other languages is unfortunately a deal breaker for me right now (I'm currently learning German). So I won't be switching over just yet, but I will keep an eye on future updates/releases. Great app, boys. I believe this add-on has the potential to be a game-changer. Hope to see more support for other languages in the future.
Comment from author
Thanks for the feedback. We have tons planned for this add-on still, so I very much doubt you'll be disappointed. .
on 1577896381
Not sure why some people are complaining about them promoting their project when this add-on is part of their project. The criticisms related to monetization don't make sense given that MIA is free and the Patreon is there if you want to support the creators (as is the case with lots of projects). Of course the add-on isn't necessary, just as it's technically not necessary to use Anki to learn words, but it's useful and saves time (esp. mass generation). I think the fair reader would agree that Matt and Yoga have done great work here in streamlining part of the card creation process.
on 1577790263
clunky UI, and Nazeka for Firefox kind of makes it redundant.
on 1577683338
Very helpful! Even as a standalone dictionary, it is very helpful as it is compatible with yomichan format, I would actually to have a similar dictionary on my phone, where I could import the files myself. The Anki integration then makes it very efficient at quickly creating cards, as I had to switch between many different tabs to check the definitions on my browser before.
on 1577673348
Way better than the setup I was using before. Keep it up!
on 1577673234
Life changing!
on 1577656841
..way to prove the guy who left the negative review right. notice how he was immediately name-called by one of the followers (the same ones the author uses to spam the page with misleading positive reviews) for stepping out of line?

that and the defensive reply by the author to defend shameless advertising/monetization where it does not belong is going to have me take a hard pass on this one.
on 1577582375
lmao at the hater/troll comment below. Awesome work!
on 1577578008
Notice how, of all the people making great add-ons, they're the only ones pushing social media and trying to get you to pay them? The author will reply defensively, but it's true. There are also a few other issues:

1) I can already make monolingual J-J cards in about ~10-15 seconds. This is add-on is ultimately solving a problem that doesn't exist, is past the threshold of diminishing returns, and enters the territory of continuously working on the "perfect setup" by constantly tweaking around with tools rather than actually learning Japanese. He created this add-on to justify the existence of his Patreon, not because it was actually necessary.

2) He uses said Patreon to implicitly encourage his followers to spam his add-ons with positive reviews even if they have issues.

3) The UI is pretty bad, and the add-on title and favicon are branded with their obnoxious method (which ironically is just a cash grab modification of the pre-monetized AJATT that he used to recommend before he was financially motivated), as if they constantly have to advertise it for some reason. Creating cards for language learning is a universal thing that has nothing to do with any method.
Comment from author
Sorry to hear you didn't find value in the add-on. Myself and many others personally have found a lot of value in its use and continue to find it pretty much revolutionizes our language learning work-flow! To say what it does was easily doable before is just inaccurate and the overwhelming majority of users will disagree with you, and with good reason. To touch on your concern about how we promote our work. First of all it's inaccurate that other add-on creators do not promote their social media and Patreon accounts, simply look through the add-ons available for Anki and you will find quite a lot of creators do the same thing. Second of all, you seem to be under the impression that us allowing willing supporters to contribute to MIA is somehow arbitrarily wrong. Remember that is only your personal opinion and that many interesting projects on the internet are now run this way. There's nothing inherently wrong in anything we are doing, you are simply having an emotional reaction to it due to your own personal background. Now when it comes to branding, there is nothing wrong with us branding our projects as our projects. We are working hard on MIA and want it to spread and help as many people as possible escape from ineffective methods, and we will always unashamedly admit that. As far as your concerns about AJATT and MIA go, while it is true that Matt previously promoted AJATT, I was never an AJATT supporter and only supported immersion based learning from the start. MIA is a collaborative effort between us that was spawned because of our shared passion for immersion based learning, it has had a wide range of influences just as AJATT or any other language learning methods have. Lastly, if you're truly interested in immersion based learning too, then it would seem like we would be on the same side. It seems silly that you so whole-heartedly oppose people trying to promote methods that will actually lead others to success in language learning, while at the same time there are tons of companies out there selling ridiculously priced courses that are fundamentally ineffective to uninformed consumers, both ripping them off and at the same time under-paying their employees. Anyways, I doubt this reply will somehow put you at ease and allow you to end your personal vendetta against us and MIA, but I do hope that at least it will serve as a bit of entertainment for all who read it going forward. Cheers bud.

This is amazing.
on 1577493497
I absolutely love this add-on. I feel so much more productive in being able to look things up within Anki, and while immersing in the browser.

For users of Japanese, look up the matt vs japan video, "How to Get 10+ Dictionaries for Yomichan" for additional monolingual and pitch accent dictionaries.

For those using the macOS version: to get the global search hotkey working, you have to go to System Prefs > Security > Accessibility and grant Anki permissions. This is missing from the docs and took me a while to find out.
on 1577435641
thank you guys, Matt and Yoga! It works great! Is there any ways to add etymology English dictionary?
on 1577433707
MIA is making language learning so much better, just wow.
on 1577405153
This plugin might replace most of my qolibri use. After converting the EPQINGs to Yomichan, it was very easy to get them imported into this plugin. I have found 2 things I hope will be changed. First, the UGLY, hard to read yellow used for the searched term, though the coloring can be disabled in the settings. Please allow this to be changed =). The other is right click closes the tabs. In a web browser and many other programs, middle click closes the tabs.
on 1577395236
This addon is so good that has the potential to greatly improve all language learning anki decks...
truly game changing, I will be improving all my decks!!!
on 1577392106
Holy crap. This is a game-changer. It used to take me like an hour to make all 20 cards for the day, now I can get it done in like 20 minutes. Allowing for almost 40 extra minutes of study/immersion per day. This is an INVALUABLE tool for anybody that is learning a language the correct way, which is some form of immersion method. Thank you so much MIA, I don't think I would ever get to the point of fluency in Japanese without you guys. But now, I'm very confident I'll exceed my expectations within the next few years thanks to tools like these.
on 1577391659
Valuable and motivating to the language learning process
on 1577357970
Amazing tool even for those learning other languages that aren't Asian - Portuguese in my case. Only downside (not the addons fault) is with European languages not being able to deconjugate. This can worked around if you know basic conjugation rules & searching forward.
on 1577354866
Makes card creation while immersing so much faster and intuitive. Now I pretty much keep Anki open at all times just so I can use the card creation features. An essential element to the MIA pipeline no matter what language you're learning.

For those learning Japanese: if you have the MIA Japanese Support add-on installed and set up, this add-on will automatically add furigana to every sentence/definition/Japanese text included on your card.
on 1577354470
Been using it for the last month or so (beta release) and I can say that it has saved me tons of time and is genuinely a useful plugin for making cards for your language learning.
on 1577354034
Great addon, replaces the need for external dictionary programs and makes making cards super easy and fast.
on 1577353868
The best anki add-on avalible for language learning by a landslide. If you are not using this, you are compromising your growth.
