In the event you're using iOS to Import File, the Order Due does not follow according to my notes arrangement. The small workaround is you need to: (Step 1) Import File thru Android's AnkiDroid or using the Anki program for Windows/Mac. (Step 2) Sync to AnkiWeb using your AnkiWeb account. (Step 3) Login to your AnkiWeb on your iOS device and sync again for the exact ordering sequence. This is a known issue for iOS where it follows the Notes Added sequence but not for Order Due sequence. It is possible to spawn a whole new sequence, but the side-effect is one; users will not be able to update the decks in the future due to different Notes ID. In the meantime, I will not alter the decks. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Do send me a Discord DM at ChemMixer#5017 if you need further assistance. Check my latest feed at ko-fi.com/ChemMixer. A new project is planned to release soon to bridge the gap with KIC. KIC Guide and Deck will be updated as well along with the upcoming release. Please refer to page [23] of the Introduction Section. Level 1 Number of Kanji: 250 (0001-0250) Remark: These are elementary kanji that a learner who has completed a beginning course is expected to have already studied. Level 2 Number of Kanji: 100 (0251-0350) Remark: These are kanji that an intermediate learner is expected to have already studied. Level 3 Number of Kanji: 850 (0351-1200) Remark: These are kanji that are generally taught in an intermediate course. Level 4 Number of Kanji: 220 (1201-1420) Remark: These are kanji that may be covered in certain intermediate courses but are not necessarily common to such courses, or kanji that are generally taught in advanced courses. Level 5 Number of Kanji: 412 (1421-1832) Remark: These are kanji that may be covered in certain advanced courses but are not necessarily common to such courses. Level 6 Number of Kanji: 110 (1833-1942) Remark: These are special kanji that appear only in the vocabulary or terminology of particular fields. Level 7 Number of Kanji: 194 (1943-2136) Remark: These are kanji that were added to the list of Jōyō Kanji when the Ministry of Education revised the list in 2010. Note, however, that in Kanji in Context the character 誰 is presented in Level 1, and the character 賂 is presented in Level 4. If you learned kanji in Level 1 and 2, you could pass on the N4 level. Partial of the N3 kanji will be in Level 3. You could score in N2 level for studying up until Level 4. Tip: You can also use the Kanji Study app to check the kanji sequence. I've sorted all the words according to the book's sequences. (Note: I used the term "entry" because some words are combined. For example, 「一日、一日」 as「ついたち」 and 「いちにち」. This is count as 1 entry.) Stage 1 is where you will learn keywords. For example in the 87th entry of 「大」, you will only learn「大きい、大学、大国、大人」. And that's all the pronunciations you need to know and understand at this stage. Go through all of 2136 Jouyou kanji and you will understand the basic knowledge of a specific kanji. At the same time, pick up a KIC workbook, study how the words are used with the heading number printed in black circles. There are 3525 entries in total. Now that you have learned the keywords, Stage 2 brings you a wider understanding of kanji and their contexts. You will be learning all over again from the first kanji until the 2136th. Using the same example, you will be encountering words with「大いに、大小、大丈夫、大豆、大金、大した、大して」. All of the printed black words contain 5246 entries. Stage 3 is marked as very low importance words with the symbols 「♢: Difficult and not high priority」,「歴: Historical and literature words」, and「特: Very rare specialised words, only used in certain situations」. At the end of this learning stage, the book claimed that you will be fully understanding 100% of Jouyou Kanji readings. There are 515 entries. In the Anki deck that I've created, the order will start at Stage 1 of Level 1 (0001) until Level 7 (2136). At the end of the Stage 1 sequence, the order is continued with Stage 2 from Level 1 again, and the same to Stage 3. All 2136 Jouyou kanji are fully tagged, with every respective level as (KC1-7). Special words are tagged with「歴」,「特」, and ♢. If you own the textbook, you can search any words in the database, using the example of「山林」, select the "Edit" button and the tags are displayed as "0459 KC3 Stage1". Open your main textbook in the 459th entry and you will see the exact ones. 5.0 How To Use/Setup 1. You can download Anki on the following platforms: (i) Anki for Windows: http://apps.ankiweb.net (ii) AnkiMobile for iOS App Store: http://apps.apple.com/us/app/ankimobile-flashcards/id373493387 (iii) AnkiDroid for Android: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ichi2.anki 2. Download the KIC deck. 3. Place the .apkg file into your Anki folder. 4. From the Anki app, select "Import File" wait for the process to finish. 5. There are few options to change for personalising your study style. 6. For the card's setup, * AnkiDroid: Enter Deck Options → New Cards. * Anki (iOS): Tap on the gear icon → Study Options * Anki (PC v2.1): Tap on the gear icon of the KIC deck on the right-hand side. * New Cards * Steps (in minutes): 5 10 60 * Order: New cards in order added * New cards/day: 9999 * Graduating interval: 1 day(s) * Easy interval: 3 day(s) * Reviews * Maximum review/day: 9999 7. There is another part to tweak on the main settings. * AnkiDroid: On the left pane of the app, enter Anki Settings → Reviewing * New card position: New cards after reviews * Start of next day: X past midnight (0 if you're going to bed before 12:00 AM) * Anki (iOS): Tap on the gear icon button → Review → Scheduling * New/Review Order: Reviews first * Day Starts: XX:00 (0 if you're going to bed before 12:00 AM) * Anki (PC v2.1): Press the "Ctrl+P" key on the main screen. Or select Tools → Preferences... → Basic * Show new cards after reviews * Next day starts at X hours past midnight (0 if you're going to bed before 12:00 AM) When you loaded the deck in the Anki for the first time, you will see 「一分」. Congratulations! There are many other ways to study such as Filtered Deck above and Custom Study Session, so I'm writing these in-detailed to guide you on how to do so. 6.0 Custom Study Session I mainly used this "Custom Study Session" to study forgotten cards (when you pressed "Again" or "Hard" buttons") or study particular tags such as KC1-KC7. Note 1: Do not use "Custom Study Session" to study the same way as the Filtered Deck's method. For example, selecting KC1 and Stage2 tag will gather 5978 cards compared to 833 cards in Filtered Deck. The system assuming that you will be learning all the tagged words of KC1 and Stage2. The filter code generated by the Custom Study Session has "or" value inside it. Note 2: You do not need to increase today's new/review card limit if you previously set the value at 9999. 7.0 Off the Anki ~ Kanji Study While you're studying in Anki, you can hop to Kanji Study (Android App) to study the same KIC's kanji sequence with a little 1-time payment. From what I've learned in Anki, I wrote a lot in Kanji Study and I have fun studying both worlds and the textbooks. To search for the kanji index in Kanji Study, type kcX=[1-7] or kicXXXX=[0001-2136] in the search bar to find the sequence that exactly appeared in the textbook. For example, typing kic100 will give you 山, etc. 8.0 FAQ Q: I've selected Stage 2 words but the words are not the same as in the textbook... A: Some minority keywords are introduced earlier in Stage 1. Since you have not come across that words in Stage 1 yet, chances are you will be seeing those first. You can select "Suspend Card" if you think it's too difficult to memorise! Q: I found that some words such as「八重桜」on page 3 did not tag with the special symbol. Why? A: On the 968th entry, this「八重桜」word is marked on the Stage 2 category. Any words that preceding one or two stages will be marked accordingly to the earlier stage. Q: How the stage tags work? A: Taking one example in 0037, when 本(ほん) is marked as Stage1 and 本(もと) is marked as Stage2, this combined entry will be tagged as Stage1 and Stage2. If 今日(こんにち) and 今日(きょう) in 0027 is marked as Stage1, and 今日(きょう) in 0016 marked as Stage2, this entry will only be marked as Stage1. Q: Any changes you have done in this deck? A: Yes. I have added some extra pronunciation on certain words such as 「白梅」with 「はくばい、しらうめ」. I've also added better meanings for some entries like "name of a prefecture" on page 282. In general, I'm using British English. Other entries involving British and American terms, I've added both entries in. I will be adding the Glossary section on my Anki page for those who wanted to know the differences I've made. Q: Any Anki decks you have done or any future projects? A: In streamlined with KIC's card styling, I've completed Minna no Nihongo for Elementary and Intermediate, and TRY Grammar Vocab. I will be releasing Genki Third Edition deck in near future. Q: And the sentences in the KIC workbook? A: Not planning to add into the vocab deck. I prefer doing in a new deck to avoid conflicts searching for words in the browser deck. 9.0 Glossary For those who wish to switch to American English, here are the little appendices I've made. 9.1 Additional Entries 一時 → いちじ、ひととき、いっとき 谷底 → たにぞこ、たにそこ 白梅 → はくばい、しらうめ 瞬き → またたき、まばたき 氷室 → ひむろ、ひょうしつ 埋立地、埋め立て地 → うめたてち 肌寒い → はだざむい、はださむい 妄信 → もうしん、ぼうしん 9.2 British and American spelling 0026, 0241, 0293, Hey, thanks for the great deck.
I would like to study the level 3 and 4 only but couldn't be sure to how to do that. I'd be really grateful if you can help with that.

I was manually creating the deck as I went along with this book, got to lesson 30 when I found this. Saves me so much time, thanks!

edit: "Order added" does not match the order in the book, and neither does "Order due". All of the cards with multiple lesson number tags come last so I can't get it to follow the lesson order no matter what I try.

edit 2: If anyone has this problem, I finally figured it out. In the card browser, sort all cards by tag and then right click->reorder. Then create filtered deck by "order due" and you'll have the correct order.

Hi. Recently I had someone DMed me similarly to your issue. In the event you're using iOS to Import File, the Order Due does not follow according to my notes arrangement. The small workaround is you need to:
(Step 1) Import File thru Android's AnkiDroid or using the Anki program for Windows/Mac.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

This deck is simply superb and is a real labor of love, as stated before. It's exactly what I wanted years ago with the original KIC and is even better with the updated edition. The flexibility and options to customize sets of specific kanji/levels is fabulous and anyone who's serious about learning kanji is better off with the KIC system (IMHO...) than any of the other sets of resources.

The only thing that I wanted that's not included are tags for the individual lesson numbers. When I learn/review, I tend to break the kanji up into blocks based on the lessons so that I can review the content in the workbook and then quiz myself block by block. Once I'm good with a bunch of lessons in the same level, I like to then add those lessons into a pool of "learned but need reviewing for permanence kanji". With the current tags, the most granular you can filter are the 7 levels, which often include a ton of kanji I haven't learned yet. If I'm somehow mistaken in this (which is entirely possible...), I hope someone will let me know so that I don't have to keep manually adding tags for every lesson as I'm currently doing.

Overall, 11/10 stars for fantastic effort, investment of time and energy, precision of entries, and utility for everyone invested in learning kanji. Thanks so much!!!

Hi, thanks for the long review. Regarding the lesson tags, since there are kanji numberings on every lesson, I've decided not to flood too many tags into a deck. The workbooks don't include all the vocabularies, so I advise you to perform a filter/cram function. If you have learned the cards before, select the filter coding with "is:due" or "is:review" functions. The view looks neat when the tags column is set in the Card Browser. But, I might try to implement it one day if there's more demand for it.

P/S: The new filtered codings are up. To address your issue, please use this command.

deck:"Kanji in Context: Revised Edition" is:review (tag:"KCX" or tag:"KCY") (tag:"StageZ")

If you've learned anything other than red words (Stage1), consider expanding the boolean command at your end string such as (tag:"Stage1" or tag:"Stage2"). You can also contact me if you need guidance on this.

Thank you for this deck... I have the books but studying kanji "in order" makes me also remember them in order... having an anki decks makes sure I actually remember the words rather than the order in which they appear... <3

Amazing piece of work! Two minor downsides though. Tags are a mess that you have to reorganize with the hierarchical tags addon. Also there's no tone information, but I guess it wasn't in the book either. I have to do it anyway.
Comment from author
Hi. Tags are all based on 1st kanji till the 2136th through stages, ordered by due time. If you read the steps given by the publisher, you will get the order of the exact stages as the book. Red words always come first, then black words, and finally kanji that marked with the symbols 「歴」,「特」, and ♢.

I'm not experienced enough for implementing tone information, though you may try to listen to the audio words by using Kanji Study app and select "Download all audio" provided by Kanji alive. I hope this helps you.
