Unfortunately, I cannot get what appears to be a wonderful plugin to work. The very first time I submitted an image occlusion, I received a UTF8 codec error.
EDIT: I figured it out. The name of the image file imported into the addon was causing it to break because it had a non-ASCII character (studying a language).
Addon works great!
Great Add on!

Thank you for fixing image occlusion. It is really an amazing add on.
A great tool, timesaver and otherwise awesome
Posted on 2015-01-21
You'd be amazed how much this helps :)
The image resizing option doesn't seem to be working though. Rather than resizing the image, it crops it (useless).

This plugin is exactly what I was looking for. And in addition to that, it works just very smoothly, looks good, feels good and translates to ankidroid with no problems!
Thanks a lot, sir!
Now working properly on Mavericks OSX

Works Again properly on Mavericks
Stopped working on Windows 7 w/ new Anki release
Posted on 2014-11-11
The most recent Anki release caused this plugin to stop functioning on Windows 7. I could make the occlusions in the SVG viewer but clicking the button to generate the cards did absolutely nothing. I noticed the plugin was updated since I last installed it (roughly 3 months ago) so I reinstalled the plugin and now cards are generated properly. I am having an issue getting occlusions to display properly but that may just be me since it's been a month or two since I last made some.
All in all this is an outstanding plugin, and while I wish it could have a more friendly and intuitive interface I won't complain when it's free. :) Kudos to the author for improving the study habits of legions of users!

It would be more awesome if we could set the number of correct answers before the reward picture is shown.
One picture for one correct answer takes too much time.
I would like, let's say, to get a reward for each 5 correct answers.
Best addon NA

Srsly. Doesn't get better than this. Medical school is EZ mode thanks to you! :)
Posted on 2014-10-13
Great add-on! Easy to use, just watch a couple youtube videos to learn how. The first time it didn't work when I pressed the "make cards" buttons, but I followed the advice of one of the reviewers below. I deleted the add-on and reinstalled, then it worked.
Impossible to use with Macbook Air 2013 running OsX Maverick
Posted on 2014-10-11
It's buggy as hell, slow, and after trying it for a couple hours, I just gave up.
Forced to uninstall. Please bring back the old version
Posted on 2014-09-28
It is extremely easy to create occlusions on images which is excellent.
However when reviewing the image occlusion cards either the picture doesn't load or the occlusions don't load rendering the card useless. I was therefore forced to uninstall the add-on.
By all accounts Image Occlusion ran extremely well before the update.
Please bring back the old version!
You guys took this amazing feature and crashed it into ground
Posted on 2014-09-28
Guys, just bring it back the way it was. Please. It's impossible to use now. I'm running Mac os x mavericks.
wrong "field count" error resolved
Posted on 2014-09-27
If I paste a PNG file, Image Occlusion 2.0 does not work.
If I use a JPG file, it DOES work
Slow, buggy, overall unusable.
Posted on 2014-09-23
Hey guys, this update is awful! It's very slow, zooms out like crazy, and I end up force closing it because it freezes. The images i use are small screenshots. Please bring the old version back, what was wrong with it in the first place?
Its frustrating because I'm trying to study and these bugs makes it impossible.
Loved it until the September update
Posted on 2014-09-14
I am running the current version of Anki on the current version of OS x. This extension has been invaluable to me as a student. Everything worked great until the update on September 12. Now I can't scroll around the image without it zooming in and out like crazy. It is a lot slower and a lot buggier than before the update. I suspect that the issue may lie with the SVG image editor and not the actual extension. Either way, I would like to have the old version back. I saw no improvement in the update.
Seems great, possible solution for mobile bug
Posted on 2014-08-12
Haven't used this a whole lot but seems to do what it says on the tin. I have experienced the same bug as other mobile users - the image loads before the occlusion shape - and seem to have solved it by changing the html code order so the rectangle loads first and using z-index to make the main picture then load beneath the rectangle in the card definition:
<div style="position:relative; width:100%">
<div style="position:absolute; top:0; width:100%; z-index:2">
<div style="position:absolute; top:0; width:100%; z-index:1">
Problems with Mac Desktop and iPad users. Flashing answers.
Posted on 2014-07-28
The app is great except for one major flaw: whenever it goes to the next card, all of the answers will be exposed for a split second before loading the generated boxes. Usually this flicker is just long enough for me to be able to see the answers, which is extremely frustrating. Has anyone figured out a solution to this?
Still works well
Posted on 2014-07-28
Was having a few minor issues with the add-in not creating cards, but a quick delete-and-reinstall fixed it. Great add-in for those visuals.
Desktop and iPhone apps have a flickering issue""
Posted on 2014-07-26
I am seeing an issue with the new Image Occlusion. When I click "show answer" the unmasked original image is displayed in a brief flicker. After a few cards I find my eyes drawn to the flicker to preview answers. This happens all the time on Anki-iPhone, on my computer I see it happen after I create a new deck, but its intermittent there after. Any ideas?
Not really useable
Posted on 2014-05-28
1st, there's a bug. Clicking "open image" and selecting a png causes it to open white space, not image.
2nd, you can't paste images into the header or footer.
3rd, if you add a field, you can't make any more cards without the database crashing because of the wrong "field count".
Uninstalled. It's easier to make occlusions manually in paint.
Posted on 2014-05-05
Works exactly as you expect. Minor problem in that sometimes it will refuse to add cards, though it can be fixed by closing anki and opening it again.
I'm using it in conjunction with a program picpick to rip screenshots, cover the labels I don't want and then do the proper labelling in the addon.
Also don't go and do something silly like make your label boxes red (like I did) - red is the colour that the label boxes turn to to show you which you're supposed to be working on
I suggest when you start out to use a test deck just to get acquanted.
This has been massively helpful: I've made nearly 1000 cards for anatomy, which sounds rough, but it's light years better than having to try and remember that with text only
Very useful, but sometimes very frustrating indeed
Posted on 2014-04-22
When I do bigger images or rotate the rectangles non-horizontally, very often the note-adding buttons stop working until Anki is restarted. Updating SVG-Edit in the addon to 2.7.1 didn't help.
Adding own text to image bug/problem
Posted on 2014-04-21
Hey! Addon works great, but I seem to have one problem;
When I open a picture, and I add Tags, everything goes fine.
Now I click the Text Tool button, and click on the image where I want to write the text.
Now the tool "text box" opens, but there is a problem. There is now in TWO places the text cursor; in "Tags" and "text box". (Cursor I mean the vertical line what flashes at end of your writing).
So now when I try to type something to "text box", the text comes up in the "Tags". And I can't actually write in to the "text box" area, cause the cursor in "Tags" never goes away, whatever I click.
Am I a noob or?
Brilliant addon !
Posted on 2014-04-16
How I've used it:
Click the addon button
Add 1 or more masks.
This works so fast.
HOLY SCHNIKES BATMAN@!!@$!

THIS IS AWESOME!!!
CAPS LOCK AWESOME!

Image Occlusion is to diagrams what cloze in anki 2 is to cloze in anki.
Thank you for an awesome add-on. :)

I strongly recommend this addon to everyone, it makes studying much easier and more enjoyable. It's really not only useful for medical things, but I also use it for things like chemistry, biology, economy, law and even languages (often there are pictures which show how something works in a language - much easier to learn this way). For things like physics and geometry it's very useful, too. I think there are endless possibilities to put this addon into action.
Just because of this addon I could boost my marks dramatically in some classes and in other classes I'm a bit better, too (after I already got better grades overall just by using plain Anki).

I just wasted countless hours trying to get this to work. Sometimes I will process an entire image and then click the "add note" button, and nothing will happen. Restarting Anki will fix this.
however the biggest problem is that when the cards are generated, they are all blank except for my rectangle. I don't know what to do and I am really upset that this wasted so much time I could have spent actually studying.
Thank your for the updates and ongoing support!
Posted on 2013-10-13
I would just like to express my gratitude for all the recent updates and support!
The latest revision is working perfectly on Anki 2.0.13.
Thank you for all your work and for creating this fantastic extension!
It's simply the best!
Posted on 2013-10-04
I can't live without it! Thanks a lot!
Posted on 2013-09-13
I used to do this manually. This is just perfect. No bugs encountered so far.
Annoying incompatibility fault in windows 8
Posted on 2013-09-10
The editing zone has been squashed for the image occlusion window since I upgraded to windows 8 and now it is too small to process images effectively. Can you fix this?
Anatomy made easy

I study medicine and this add-on is an essential part of Anki for me. I had problems with the previous versions but version 2.2 appears to work great. Thank you very much!
Worked for 4 days: now it prevents my whole deck from working
Posted on 2013-04-29
I downloaded this add-on on 4/23. I re-downloaded it on 4/28 to make sure I have the latest.
It worked great. I created about 40 cards with image occlusion in about 2 minutes, maybe even less time. As I said, awesome.
But about 2 hours ago when I created another card, it created errors. I did Check Database and that didn't work.
I emailed the programmer, Tiago. He emailed back, which I am thankful for. He recommended exporting the collection, uninstalling Anki, and reinstalling, and then importing. I did all that.
Still, it doesn't work.
This was an indispensable add-on. I am a huge fan. I am really disappointed I cannot use this for my securities exam (Series 7).
Here is the Discussion I opened up on Anki's site:
Posted on 2013-04-28
I'm also having the problem of masks being applied to the previous image. As some of the other reviewers have said, this isn't noticeable until reviewing the cards and makes for a lot of wasted effort.
Having to open an image or use the clipboard to open the editor makes it hard to use with Skitch and the likes, where you're supposed to drag the image onto something.
Bugfix does not fix major bug of using wrong base image
Posted on 2013-04-08
This add-on is wonderful but unfortunately still has a major bug that impedes using the addon without restarting anki frequently.
If you make one set of occlusions using image1 and add it to deck1 and then try to make another set of occlusions using image2 in another deck (deck2) the occlusions you draw on image2 will actually be applied to the previous image (image1) instead of the intended image (image2). These cards are obviously not useable and you do not know this has happened until you try to study them.
I think this is the problem the reviewer from 03-25-2013 is referencing.

Best plugin for Anki, but current bug that was described below needs a fix, kinda annoying to have to restart anki each time.
Posted on 2013-03-27
Amazing for health related classes!
Posted on 2013-03-25
Great plugin, however if you close the add window after making an occultion, then go back to add again and create another, they will end up with the image last used before the add window was closed. You won't be able to tell until you preview teh cards. Restart Anki fixes this.
A must for anyone studying medicine
Posted on 2013-03-09
for anyone doing medicine, this addon is a MUST. Fastest way to put diagrams into Anki.
Thank you so much.

That is all :)
first time using this
Posted on 2012-12-07
I've seen a tutorial on youtube about this and I pretty sure I will use it for a long time.
This is huge!

To celebrate the occasion of the update, I just learnt the states of the U.S. -- from creating the deck to learning them it was only half an hour or so. Very nice look and feel, and thoughtful implementation!
2012/11 update is great

Makes this type of card usable in a practical timeframe!
I'm going to be using this add on a lot!
Posted on 2012-10-21
I've been an avid Anki user for over a year and have 4000+ cards in my decks. I've used this app for a short while and it has already saved me a ton of time. I used to make image occlusion cards manually in Paint which I found very useful/efficient, but now I can make the same quality cards 8-10X faster. This addon is an absolute lifesaver for studying anatomy. HIGHLY recommended.
