Multiple Choice

<10kB. Updated 2016-01-20. Only supports Anki 2.0.x.

This plugin lets you add multiple choice cards to Anki. These choices will be randomized. Much inspiration from https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/441235634 on how to add fields to cards. How to use: 1) Make a note with the following fields: MC_Ans, MC_1, MC_2, MC_3, ... (can have as may MC_#s). MC_Answer should have which MC_# has the right answer. For example, if MC_2 is the right answer, then MC_Answer should have 2. The right answer is Bangalore, which is in MC_1, so MC_Ans is 1. Only the fields starting with MC are essential. You can add as many other MC_# fields as you wish. 2) Make a card with {{MC_Questions}} where you want the questions to appear, and {{MC_Answer}} where you want the answer to appear. Note that you do not have to have any of the MC_# fields. Also, note that the answer choices are randomized - they will always be randomized. 3) The end. If you want to change the format of the correct answer, edit the file.

Other Anki 2.0.x Add-Ons Ask a Question

Seems great, but it won't work, when I imput {{MC_Questions}} it doesn't recognise it, says:
{unknown field MC_Questions}
some heelp
on 1547019667
Unfortunately, it doesn't work on the phone.
on 1545818419
It doesn't work for the Anki version 2.1.5.

Love this add on. One change that doesn't inhibit an awesome review, but would be nice is if only the correct answer was displayed instead of the entire set of possible answers.

On a side note, for those folks asking about an answer explanation: this is achieved easily enough by adding an additional field for it and then editing the back of the card to display that field like so {{name_of_explanation_field}}.

If this allowed you to have multiple correct answers, it would be the perfect add-on! I'm using it to study for a IT certification and sometimes there will be more than one correct answer.

The options numbers are shown in different lines than the options, an with an excessive leading, like this:

How can this be solved?
Thanks in advance.
on 1536793761
Could you update it to work with Anki 2.1, please?
on 1536699765
Love it!
It works wonderfully, thank you so so much!!

Except I needed to ==========> HIGHLIGHT MULTIPLE ANSWERS <=========
so my awesome brother tweaked a few bits of the code.
He doesn't claim it, it is still mostly only a copy of this add-on.

If you want to test it out:
- download and set up the Multiple Choice add-on as instructed in steps 1,2&3
- in step 2 write {{MC_Answers}} instead of {{MC_Answer}}
- in your Anki app go to Tools ---> Add-ons -----> Multiple_Choice ------> Edit...
- replace the whole code in the Edit window with the code in this link:

(the numbers in MC_Ans field should be separated by a space: "1 2 3 4")

For everyone struggling to get it to work, the issue is in the MC_Questions box and the MC_Answer box. Rename the first to "Question" and the second to "MC_Ans".
Then on the front template have:

And on the back:

<hr id=answer>

{{MC_Answer}} [NOT MC_ANS]

My only issue now is that it sometimes starts a new line after listing the multiple choice option.

So it'd read:

(2) 460ms
(3) 400ms
(4) 430ms

Instead of:
(1) 490ms
(2) 460ms
(3) 400ms
(4) 430ms

I'm an android user, I desperately wanted to use this add-on so I installed this about a month ago.
But it is not working at all nor I don't have any options to choose this card type.
Can anyone let me know how to solve this problem?

If anyone wish to contact me and help me solve the problem, email me to iqe02603@nate.com. thanks.

This is an excellent plugin. I have created a version for Anki 2.1: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/843236755

Could you update it to work with Anki 2.1, please?

This is a great add-on. I have a class that pulls multiple choice quiz questions for our multiple choice exam so it really helps in studying. Please make it work for the Anki iOS app!
on 1525132800
Works perfectly.
on 1520985600
Unfortunately, it's not working in the new version of Anki. :/
on 1519257600
added the {{MC_...}}'s to the Card and got this now when I try to open Cards:

If that doesn't fix the problem, please copy the following
into a bug report:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "aqt\editor.py", line 434, in onCardLayout
File "aqt\clayout.py", line 40, in __init__
File "anki\notes.py", line 47, in flush
on 1518307200
Great add-on but I wish it allowed for answer choices in the format (A), (B), (C), (D), etc., instead of (1), (2), (3), (4).
Would also be great if there were some way to add an explanation beneath each answer choice when displaying the correct answer shown in blue.

This is a great addon to Anki. Just what I was looking for. It is working perfectly and it worked at my first attempt. Thanks a lot for developing this helpful tool.
on 1507852800

Cool program!

My only complaint is the one others have mentioned -- it doesn't work on my IPhone which is where I do 90% of my studying.

If you can fix that, this addon would (easily!) get my 5 Star award!

For those struggling to get it to work, I did too. It turns out (for me anyway) this was the key part of the instruction: "MC_Ans, MC_1, MC_2, MC_3, ... (can have as may MC_#s)". (See above from author's instructions).

I tried it a few times -- and had no luck.

Then I changed it to be exactly as he had it written (including the Capital Letters!) and I got it to work. (ex. "mc_1" = wrong!; "MC_1" = right!)

And I also added this text to the cards -- verbatim (capital letters, brackets and all!):

{{MC_Questions}} = to the "front template" of the card

{{MC_Answer}} = to the "back template" of the card

Then, voila -- success!

Hope this helps some of you struggling.

:) nice

..plz add an option for more right answers; e.g. by "," or "." 1,2,3
Nice Work!

Not as advertised

It may just be me but this add on does not seem to work at all. It appears from previous reviews that others are struggling with it too. If you are confident in its ability could you please provide a more detail explanation
on 1501113600
Not working, can somebody help me out?

I have tried the above procedure, but unsuccessful
if anyone can please tell me about the correct method?

iOS device not supported

Not able to review my card on the iOS app.its really frustrating.Overall very good add on for desktops

Found the answer to the Explanation issue

I have to say this has been the answer to my prayers! And I am not the praying type! Some users have asked for a option to put in an Explanation for the correct answer. It's so simple. Just add another field to the back named Explanation. As far as the question What if you have more than one correct answer? List both correct answers in the answer section. This is almost point and click simple! I love it!! Thank you!!

Needs mobile support

I love this add-on and just tested it and got it to work perfectly with little trouble. However, I use my Android phone for reviews more often than my computer so I don't think I'll be making any more multiple choice cards until this add-on is updated somehow to offer support for the app. Otherwise all of my MC cards won't work when I'm reviewing on my phone.

Bonus points if you can work out some sort of compatibility with Awesome TTS. My immediate solution was to create an extra field that doesn't appear on the card and type out the whole answer with the missing (multiple choice) bit filled in so that Awesome TTS could create audio from this new field. But that requires typing the sentence twice, which isn't ideal.

In short, great idea but I'll be sticking to cloze cards for now.

@Just one step away from perfect

I was also looking for a way to display why option X was the correct answer. Someone made a card type with some fancy Javascript that randomizes multiple choice options, and it has the "descriptive answer" field you're looking for. It also has a few more options that you can safely ignore. It may be found here https://www.reddit.com/r/Anki/comments/43slne/conditional_multiple_choice/czkygy3 or here https://anki.tenderapp.com/discussions/ankiweb/1492-suggestion-add-a-page-for-shared-note-templates
on 1458345600
Just one step away from perfect

Please add an optional "descriptive answer" field to be shown besides the number of the correct answer.
on 1456704000
Multiple correct answers

Hi. Please add an option where user can separate correct answers via ",". Good job.
on 1455840000
Nice one

But aswell as others, I need multiple Answers :-) Maybe there is some time to bring this feature up :)
on 1454630400
Very promising

If there is more than one correct answer, what to do?
on 1453593600
Much needed!

HavenĀ“t tried it yet, but seems simple enough to configure, easier than previous alternatives. Thanks!
