Have you seem an Anki Deck called "Chinese sentences and audio, spoon fed" ? This deck is the same idea, but for Dutch. Here's how this deck was made: 1) I grabbed a list with the 5000 most frequently used Dutch words -- sorted from the most frequently used, to the least. 2) I grabbed 15 000 translated Dutch sentences from the internet 3) I wrote a program that assigns a Frequency Rank Number to each word from every sentence, this Frequency Rank Number based on the list mentioned on item "1)" 4) This program calculates the average value of the all the words' Frequency Rank Numbers. And assigns this value to the sentence. The result is that if a sentence contains advanced words, the sentence will have a high Average Frequency Rank Number. If a sentence contains only beginner words, the AFRN will be low. 5) Finally, I sorted the sentences: from the ones with the lowest AFRN, to the highest. The end result is that this deck begins with very, very simple sentences, and new words get slowly introduced as you progress. In the front of the card is the Dutch sentence audio, In the back of the card is the written Dutch sentence, with the english translation. If it sounds complicated to you, here's in a nutshell: The 10 000 Dutch sentences from this deck are sorted from easiest to hardest, so they are ideal for beginners. If some sentences are too easy for you, just delete them (press Delete button on your keyboard) until a more challenging one comes up. The following Anki add-on adds a Replay button to the Computer Version of Anki, and is recommended for this deck: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/498789867 If this deck is useful to you, please rate it!~ frequencylists.blogspot.com.br [The audio on the sample below might be incoherent because of some bug on the Anki website. But if you download the deck, the audio will be right.] --------- The purpose of the audio in this deck is teaching and scholarship, and I'm not making money out of it: therefore it is considered "Fair Use". - Some sentences of this deck are in the belgian variety of dutch. Intermediate students will easily identify those cards and delete them; but for beginners that could be confusing. I will remake this deck to make it 100% nederlands Dutch.

I used this deck a lot and was really enjoying it. Then I showed it to a native dutch speaker and she pointed out some pretty glaring grammatical mistakes, and just missing words from sentences...disappointing! Wish there was an accurate and extensive dutch to English sentence deck out there like this one with audio. Too good to be true.

This deck was uploaded 4 years ago, and after 10 000 downloads this is the first time someone complains about mistakes.

So I think the issue is not as bad as you think ^^

But I know a way to increase the reliability and accurracy of the sentences, and I hope to make it better in the next version of the deck.

But why delete the Belgium cards? Just tag them. Users can then delete if they want, but others may find them quite helpful...like me! Seriously, please don´t take away something useful.

And - Excellent deck! Really appreciate your effort.

The "easiest" is freak hard, in my first day I had "Is jullie oom nog steeds in het buitenland?", it's impossible to be that easy phrase to be in first day training. Where is the basic like "How are you"?

Thanks for the reply, my Anki is with this setup, looks like a bug in Anki.

1. Click the "configurations" button on the right side of the deck

2. Click "options"

3. See the box called "Order". Set it to "Show new cards in order added".
(Your box is probably set in "Show new cards in random order").

That should solve your issue.

"Is jullie oom nog steeds in het buitenland" is the 2692nd card of the deck! It is NOT among the first cards.

This is the order that the cards are introduced (notice that it starts fairly simple):

Really Helpful. I would like to have a japanese deck with something like 10000 sentences using your method, is that possible?
Also, thanks for your hard work with all of your decks.

just stareted but seems great. Thanks for the contributors

it's great but it would be even greater if we could reverse the cards. I am new to Anki and could find how to reverse them but I don't think it's possible for this deck, right?

Updated after author's response:
Thanks for the link, I had to change the fields around from the back to the front and added a tag question, because it gave me an error when I tried to flip, and it worked :)
Since what I need to learn is to talk, it's definitively better for me the other way around :)

Really well done.

A very well put-together collection. I like having the audio in isolation, as well as the word frequency right on the back side.

Very nice work! The whole word to frequency values makes it a very nice learning tool. This is almost perfect, if the voice wasn't robotic it would be perfect!
Thank you a lot for sharing this!

A few sentences are repeated but overall this deck super useful. Thanks!
on 1553177608
It just repeats Dat kan niet waar zijn...
Tested it on mobile, windows and online...
on 1545652850
It's broken. It only shows the first card over and over. In any case there is no option for silent study. The front of the card is the sound file. That's not good if I'm studying on the tram.

EDIT: It turned out that the card showing over and over was actually different cards all translating the sentence "Dat kan niet waar zijn." repeatedly into English in trivially different ways. I was hoping that having 10,000 cards would mean that I would get beyond basic vocabulary and idioms, but the amount of repetition means that in fact there are a lot fewer sentences than that, which leaves the deck more suitable for a beginner than for an intermediate speaker.

(1) You can edit what appears in the front and back of the cards (including, you can remove the audio for silent study). See this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnbKwHEQ1mA&yt%3Acc=on

(2) If it only shows the first card, then you might be having technical issues. Search your issue on Google or ask the developper: https://anki.tenderapp.com/

• There are 350 repeated sentences in the first 5000 cards; which means there is not "a lot fewer sentences" as you say.
• You can go to the Computer version of Anki, click the deck, click browse, then delete the fist 3000~6000 sentences of this deck. Doing this will make you go straight to the more challenging sentences.

Great deck!

Ankidroid is having problems with it, though. I'm not getting the audio files to work

I'm Dutch, so I checked this out to give you a native speaker's perspective on the quality.

The deck is better than I expected, I didn't notice many major mistakes, no d/t errors (which Dutch people get wrong all the time), and I also didn't see any wrong articles (which is something non-natives often get wrong).
However, some prepositions are wrong, the word order of certain sentences is really peculiar, and some sentences use a strange tense, in my opinion. I think the deck used both Flemish and Dutch sources, so some of the more idiomatic expressions might get you strange looks depending on where you use them, but not to the extent that either Dutch of Belgian people will not understand.
Pronunciation is a bit robotic, but overall decent, sounds quite Dutch (her r rolls/trills a bit more than what you usually hear in "generic" Dutch). If your aim is to sound Flemish, don't mimic this audio.

TLDR: pretty good, but not flawless.

Best deck out there for Dutch

I needed something like, well, this! Fantastic deck, and I cant really have any complaints. I have my own deck where I just throw new daily words, and this one is the perfect complement for getting my listening levels up and active. If you want to be really picky, there are a few doubles at the easiest level, but just tap 'easy' or delete the note and thats that. Much thanks for the deck!
