Japanese Katakana Mnemonics (version 1.03)
0.02MB. 0 audio & 0 images. Updated 2015-01-13.
Description
Mnemonics for all basic katakana (including the g, z, d, b and p rows that differ only two dashes or one circle from respectively the k, s, t and h rows) as well as all combination-katakana like シャ (sha) and チャ (cha).
Most of the mnemonics are based on visual resemblances. None of them is particularly intended to shock or offend. Nonetheless, an occasional mnemonic has a precise historical reference to something unpleasant, while a few others use slightly morbid resemblances. This was not intended to shock or offend: these were simply the associations that worked best for me.
Version 1.03 note:
- Deleted a card that gave the incorrect spelling for the rarer "ja, ju, jo". The correct card now has ヂャ, ヂュ and
ヂョ.
Version 1.02 notes:
- For completeness' sake, the voiced and the aspirated katakana have been added as well, but only with mnemonics for the irregular ヂ/ヅ (ji/ju).
- The more obvious combination katakana (employing the "little" symbols ャ,ュ and ョ) have been added as well, but again for completeness' sake, so without mnemonics.
- Larger mnemonics have been added to help memorize the horizontal and vertical order of the kana.
- Some mnemonics that I found less effective than I had hoped, have been replaced with (hopefully) better ones.
